Bed and breakfast kitchen essentials

As any good bed and breakfast owner will the you, the engine room of any bed and breakfast is the kitchen. Making sure that your kitchen is correctly stocked and equiped is an essential component of making sure that things run smoothly and your customers have the best possible experience during their stay with you.

What commercial and industrial appliances should you have in your kitchen?

Every kitchen is different of course and depending on what you intend on serving in your bed and breakfast, your needs may differ. Personally though, I would highly recommend purchasing a good commercial cooker equipped with and over as well as a good industrial dishwasher. The cooker is self explanatory, there’s nothing quite like preparing a meal for your patrons on a quality cooker but the dishwasher may not seem as obvious a choice. The reason I’ve included a dishwasher is because having a machine to wash your dishes frees up a whole lot of time, so much so that I couldn’t live without mine.

Rather than having to manually wash dishes, pots and pans which depending on the size of your bed and breakfast can take quite a long time, you can simply put them into a dishwasher and simply forget about them. Now I would also recommend investing in a quality dishwasher too, as I would for any catering equipment that you buy. Sure, the price may be a little more upfront but when you buy catering equipment that is high quality, you can guarantee that it’s going to save you more money in the long run.

So what else are you going to need in your kitchen?

So you’ve got your dishwasher and cooker sorted. I would also recommend investing in good crockery, because in my opinion, you should never underestimate the impact that top quality dishes and cutlery will have on your customers. It shows a real attention to detail and that you’ve actually put some forethought into presentation. If you go that extra mile for your customers, it dramatically increases the odds that they are going to come back to your bed and breakfast in the future.

Kitchen ingredients are also crucial to your success. If you neglect to pay attention the breakfast, you can pretty much guarantee that you’re going to be cutting down on your repeat business. Food and presentation is becoming increasingly important too in this age of online reviews, if what you serve isn’t up to scratch you can pretty much guarantee that someone is going to give you unfavorable review or take a less that flattering photograph. So be warned, always put effort into your breakfasts.

One of the most important things to remember before you actually get started is that running a bed and breakfast successfully is not only a business but it is a way of life. You need to be there almost all year around in order to cater for your guests, that is if you really care about your reputation. Make no mistake either, reputation is everything in this business, you live and die by it. If your bed and breakfast doesn’t have a good reputation then it isn’t going to be around for long.
